:) This smiley face should say it all. the Jenn-Air people did send out a local repair guy and he agreed that the range was trashed by an internal electrical fire.

The company then called me back (same day) and offered an exchange, dollar for dollar for a new stove. I still don't trust the Jenn air design folks, but I did order a new similarly equipped dual fuel double oven range by Kitchenaid. Yes I know that Jenn-Air, Kitchenaid, Maytag, and Whirlpool are all the same company. but hey I gotta have a stove and that's the offer I got so I will attempt it.

I don't know why I am getting this great offer, but I am taking it.

It was certainly scary having a stove burst into flame, but you can't ask for better than an even exchange for a brand new stove. The people at Jenn-air did the right thing by me for sure and Kitchenaid will now always have my business.

My jenn-air dual fuel stove that I have had for five years now I purchased at home Depot. It burst into flames yesterday.

I was simply baking bread in the bottom oven and corn muffins in the top one. I was in the kitchen at the time and I heard this electric arc type of sound comming from the control panel. It was just for a second or so and then it started smoking and sending out flame from the back of the control panel I ran to the garage to flip the breaker off and then vented the house of the smoke. I could not believe that in such an expensive "high end" appliance that they would allow a unit to fail is such a way as to cause a fire before it would switch itself off.

It is only pure dumb luck that I was there in the kitchen at the time and not out in the garden or doing something else out of sight of the stove or that fire could have spread and could have lost my house.

No matter the outcome of what the company does to correct this I am done with jenn-air. How can you trust a company whose products can burn your house down?

HardTail69;

You are fortunate. However, I'm willing to bet Whirlpool's lawyers are familiar with the problem and replaced your oven rather than to risk a law suit. They know the control panels are the weak links in their appliances, but as long as the panel merely dies rather than ignites, they don't care.

I think you are spot on. they were very very cooperative in very short order.

:) This is an update to my complaint about the jenn air dual fuel stove starting on fire. I have seen what others have said about he customer service of jenn air but they certainly did the right thing by me they replaced my range with a brand new one and all I had to do was pay the difference in MSRP.

So I had a two thousand dollar MSRP on my old Jenn air and the new kitchenaid had an MSRP of 2500 so I paid 500 bucks for a brand new stove from Kichenaid. I don't think that is a bad deal. The kitchenaid has been superior in every way to my old Jenn Air. Better burners, better control panel, better looking, and every function works perfectly.

It is a lot more intuitive than the jenn air stove as well. It was very little hassle considering the few phone calls I had to make and they were mostly to the repair company that could not seem to decide if they knew how to install it. The factory rep was very easy to deal with in my case. I am not sure why but I did not have the same kinds of problems that others on this forum have reported about poor customer service.

I just hope that this stove doesn't burst into flames like the Jenn Air did after 6 years. That was completely scary. No appliance of any age should ever short out in such a way as to start on fire.

I will never buy a Jenn Air product again. Having said that I gotta hand it to the folks at Whirlpool for handling the situation like they did.

file a complaint with the CPSC. This is a govt.

agency that regulates these things and need to know.

Do a search for the website. I think the site is: cpsc.gov
